BA ‘poor communication’ over Newcastle flight cancellation
14.07.09
Passengers have accused British Airways of poor communication after they were hauled off a flight minutes before it was due to depart over the weekend. Engineers discovered a ‘technical problem’ on the flight about to operate a Heathrow flight on Saturday, causing chaos, the Sunday Sun reports.
Around 180 people were told to get off the British Airways BA1321 flight at Newcastle Airport, scheduled to leave for Heathrow at 06:45. The passengers had already boarded the Boeing 747 and had put their seat belts on ready for take-off.
One of the stranded passengers was 45-year-old Marie Burns, of Seaham, County Durham, who claimed BA’s communication was poor. The credit manager was due to board a 10:00 connection from Heathrow to Newark, New York, for a business trip. She said: ‘It was just total chaos. We all sat and waited in the lounge because they said they would update us within the hour - but they didn’t. It was ridiculous. They only had one person on the customer service desk.’
