Newcastle Airport pilots warned over chemical fire
14.04.08
Smoke from a North-East chemical fire late last week was so thick that it could have affected the vision of pilots landing and taking off at Newcastle Airport. Fire officers warned the airport that flight paths above Dudley, North Tyneside, could be affected by the smoke.
Over 40 firefighters attended the blaze at Shasun Pharma Solutions on Dudley Lane. The alarm was raised at 18:30 on Friday when the building was heavily smoke-logged. In addition to warning the airport, fire officers also evacuated houses that were downwind of the building because of the threat from noxious gases.
