Newcastle Airport suffers power outage

Newcastle Airport was forced to use back-up generators yesterday, after a power failure left more than 7000 properties including the travel hub without electricity. Power company CE Electric said it was investigating the incident, which happened at about 05:00 in the morning.
A spokesman for the airport said there had been no impact on passenger services. Tyne and Wear Metro services to the airport were suspended for a short period. CE Electric described the incident as a ‘high voltage fault.’
