Ten of the UK's larger airports are monitored are monitored by the CAA and, from April-June, Newcastle achieved on time performance of 86% for scheduled flights and 76% for chartered flights.
The figures also show that the average delay across all charter flights monitored fell from 32 minutes in the second quarter of 2008 to 19 minutes in the second quarter of 2009. At Newcastle, the average delay of all flights was eight minutes for scheduled flights and 15 minutes for charter flights.
Newcastle Airport's operations director, Will Dougherty, said: ‘This is excellent news for the airport, our airline partners and, of course, our passengers. Making sure aircraft arrive and depart on time requires a real team effort. It is testimony to the hard work of people right across the business that we are continuing to outperform the majority of other UK airports on flight punctuality. I also hope it gives extra confidence to our customers, who can rely on a speedy and efficient service from their local airport.’
