New boss for Newcastle Airport

Newcastle Airport has announced the appointment of its new chief executive. Dave Laws, a former firefighter at the airport, has been appointed as its new boss. He has been with the airport for 28 years, and has risen through the ranks to be appointed chief executive.
The airport has been looking for a new chief since the resignation of John Parkin in controversial circumstances earlier this year. Mr. Laws started his career as a fire officer, before then undertaking roles in many areas of the business including health and safety, personnel, passenger services, aeronautical relations and commercial.
Most recently he held the post of chief operating officer, during a period that has seen the successful launch of new long haul Emirates flights, the unveiling of a new air traffic control tower, and the airport's busiest ever summer period.
Mr Laws said: 'I am delighted to take up this exciting and challenging role. The airport is so important to the region, and I look forward to working hard to further reinforce its role as an engine for regional economic growth.'
'My message to the region is that we are passionate about your airport. The team at Newcastle International, including our staff and business partners, is committed to bringing more success through sustainable growth, improved customer service, a responsible attitude to the environment and our neighbours, and the delivery of a safe and secure regional facility.'
Former boss John Parkin, who was suspended from his role in March and resigned in May, has since joined Leeds Bradford Airport as chief executive. There is an outstanding legal case by the airport against him.
