Newcastle Airport wants US flights
09.09.07
Newcastle Airport bosses have revealed fresh plans to bring the region its first non-stop flight to the United States. They say that the airport is currently in discussions with a number of airlines to make the US its second long-haul destination following the launch of Emirates' flight to Dubai last weekend.
The plans for a direct US flight come two years after American Airlines cancelled its scheduled Newcastle to New York route before it took off, as it scrapped expansion plans due to soaring fuel costs.
A spokesperson for the airport said: 'Our focus is now firmly set on securing further long-haul services with a priority on a direct service to the US. Discussions have been ongoing for some time. We are hopeful that the US service will be announced soon.'
