Emirates flying high at Newcastle Airport

Emirates has enjoyed its best week since launching flights from Newcastle Airport 18 months ago. Despite the effects of the global economic downturn, the airline, which flies daily from Newcastle to Dubai - its hub to the rest of the world - recorded its best passenger figures since arriving in the region.
A spokesman said that around 2,600 people took advantage of the service, which connects via Dubai to destinations including Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines and Hong Kong. The flights ran at more than 95% capacity over the 10-day period up to and including Saturday.
The spokesman added: ‘Easter has clearly been helping, with a lot of people going away, and I think with us being here for nearly two years now, more people are looking to go further afield for their holidays.’ The weak pound against the US dollar will also have encouraged passengers to look east rather than west for their Easter break this year.
