Drunk air traffic controller in court
07.09.09
Security guards prevented a possible disaster - by calling the police when an air traffic controller turned up for work at Newcastle Airport drunk, the Sun reports Watch manager Neil Stewart, 55, had already put lives at risk by driving to the airport, and appeared in court charged with driving offences.
The guards smelled alcohol on Mr Stewart's breath as he clocked on. They telephoned the police, who found he was twice the drink-drive limit. Mr Stewart, who quit after being suspended, admitted drink-driving and being over the limit when reporting for duty. He was given a 3 year driving ban and 12-month community order by Newcastle JPs.
