easyJet cuts Newcastle Airport flights
06.08.10
easyJet is to axe routes and reduce the number of aircraft it operates from Newcastle Airport. The airline is to scrap its winter services from Newcastle to Murcia and Rome, as well as lowering the frequency of flights to a number of other destinations.
It will also only base three planes at the airport, compared to the current five. This includes on its summer routes next year, which implies a big reduction in services compared to this summer.
Airport bosses say the reductions are offset by other airlines simultaneously bolstering the services they provide from Newcastle. Low-cost rival Jet2 recently announced it will start flying to Toulouse, Alicante and Faro, as well as bringing back services to Krakow, Poland, and Prague, in the Czech Republic.
