Emirates Newcastle Airport milestone
06.06.08
Emirates has reached the milestone of carrying the 100,000th passenger on its daily route between Newcastle Airport and Dubai.
The 100,000th traveller on the service was Michael Reay, a director for a company that manufactures food supplements and health care products for horses, who uses the flights to travel to the United Arab Emirates on business. He has already flown over 100,000 miles with Emirates since the service started, and received two return economy class tickets on the route.
Laurie Berryman, manager of Emirates for the UK, said: ‘We are thrilled to have reached this milestone in our Newcastle service so quickly, and several weeks ahead of our forecast. The demand for the service has exceeded our expectations, and travellers from the region are clearly taking advantage of our network to fly to Dubai and beyond.’
Emirates' connection between Newcastle and Dubai was inaugurated just over nine months ago on September 1st 2007. It gives travellers from the north-east the opportunity to connect to destinations including Bangkok, Sydney, Perth and the Maldives via the airline's Dubai hub.
