A British Airways call centre worker based in Newcastle is being questioned on suspicion of terrorist fund-raising after being arrested at the company's offices. Searches were conducted at the premises and a residential address when the 30-year-old was arrested on February 25, it was reported today. Detectives have been given more time to interview him in London.
The suspect was arrested by officers from the North East Counter Terrorism Unit as part of a joint operation with the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command. A spokesman said: ‘On 25 February a 30-year-old man was arrested at a business address in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on suspicion of terrorist fund-raising. He remains in custody at a central London police station. Searches of the business premises, and residential premises in the Newcastle-upon-Tyne area, are complete.’
A BA spokesman said it took security ‘extremely seriously’ but could not comment further during the investigation.
