Newcastle Airport upgrade air traffic control training
01.12.11
Bournemouth based Micro Nav has been selected by Newcastle Airport to upgrade its Air Traffic Control training programme. The airport will use the company's latest Best Air Traffic Control (ATC) simulators after it awarded Micro Nav a new contract.
A radar and tower simulator with a panoramic three-dimensional display of the airport will be supplied by Micro Nav, which will also provide support for the technology. The realistic simulation of the view from the Newcastle tower is created by an accurate visual model of the airport, the aircraft, vehicles, surroundings and the weather. The tower and radar simulators are integrated so that advanced team training can be carried out for handling unusual and emergency situations, as well as regular refresher training.
Allan Davison, Newcastle Airport's ATC watch manager, said: ‘After evaluating our options we concluded that Micro Nav's Best simulators offer the flexibility we need in a compact package that meets our training requirements and can be expanded to cover our future demands.’ The new system will be installed before the end of this year, and brings the total number of Best systems in the UK to sixteen.
