Residents still waiting for Manchester Airport compensation
30.12.07
Residents living under the flightpath for Manchester Airport are still waiting for promised compensation, almost five years after a second runway opened. They say the solicitors dealing with the compensation claims were constantly changing, and the airport 'doesn't want to know'.
The airport is believed to have set aside £80 million for compensation claims when the runway was built. However, only 200 Knutsford people are believed to have claimed and many of those remain empty-handed.
Four residents in Montmorency Road - one of the most affected parts of Knutsford - are waiting on claims submitted several years ago. One, Peter Davies, sought compensation five years ago and is still waiting on his claim. He said: 'I'll be very, very surprised if they ever pay out. The airport just don't seem interested. They don't want to know.'
