Manchester Airport trains to Lakes cut

The Windermere and Barrow rail lines have both lost some of their popular direct train services to and from Manchester Airport in the latest rail timetable shake-up. Members of the rail lobby group for the Windermere route are fuming after losing three out of five direct trains to their town from the airport, and two out of five direct services to the airport. They claim tourists will decline as a result, and locals will be inconvenienced.
The loss of some airport services has been caused by operator TransPennineExpress redirecting some of its 100 mph Desiro class trains so that they can be used on the new services from Manchester to Glasgow and Edinburgh. The Windermere line has seen most airport trains replaced by a shuttle service between Windermere and Oxenholme where passengers changed.
On the Furness line, the 12:22 Barrow to Manchester Airport and the 13:27, 15:27 and 18:27 Manchester Airport to Barrow services were scrapped in the new timetable, and at least one train has to wait at Preston to be joined with a connecting service from Scotland. But Barrow's losses were partly made up with new 12:27 and 14:27 trains to the town from Manchester Airport.
Robert Talbot, secretary of the Lakes Line Rail User Group says they have complained about their loss of direct airport services and the changes in cross country services to their MP, Tim Farron, and to the national rail watchdog Passenger Focus and Travel Watch North West.
