Manchester Airport prepares for busiest weekend
28.07.09
Manchester Airport is gearing up for its busiest weekend of the year, but passenger numbers are likely to be slightly down on last year. Around 350,000 passengers are expected to pass through the terminals between tomorrow and next Monday, with 350 aircraft arrivals and departures marking the start of its peak summer season.
The traditional hotspots remain popular destinations, but travellers are increasingly booking trips to places outside the euro zone, such as Turkey, Cyprus and the United States, to avoid the pound's weakness against the single currency. Andrew Cornish, managing director of Manchester Airport, said: ‘Despite the economic downturn, it would appear that many people are still keen to enjoy a summer holiday.’
