Corporate jet usage down 80% at Manchester Airport
29.06.09
Manchester Airport's private jet business saw passenger numbers fall by almost 80 percent in May, Crain’s reports. Private jet movements at the airport have fallen by more than a quarter in the last 12 months, while movements in May were down by 34 percent, according to new figures.
The price of fuel, tighter corporate budgets and a desire to avoid being seen as extravagant have all contributed to the slump, according to operators of the airport's private terminal, but a hard core of the super rich are still using their jets despite the economic situation.
Natalie Raper, marketing director of Ocean Sky Jet Centre Ltd, which runs the airport's private terminal, told the newspaper that things were ‘tough’. She said the crisis in the banking industry had been one of the factors behind the falls, but is hopeful of an upturn in 2010, having spent time at recent trade shows.
