Cargo up 10.3% at Manchester Airport
27.02.08
Manchester Airport is celebrating a strong year for its cargo business, with volumes increasing 10.3% to 166,500 tonnes. In an interview with International Freighting Weekly, the airport's cargo manager, Michael O'Connor, described the achievement as ‘incredible’ given that the UK market as a whole has seen little growth over the last 12 months.
He said: ‘While growth early in the year was modest, it was the momentum gained from the five new freighter services that we attracted from spring onwards that gave a significant boost to our volumes as the year progressed.’
Carriers starting new freighter services to Manchester last year included Chinese cargo airline Great Wall Airlines, Singapore-based cargo airline Jett8, FedEx Express, Air China Cargo and Aeroflot Cargo.
