Passengers sue over Manchester Airport gate injuries
24.02.10
Passengers have lodged compensation claims after alleging they were trapped in security doors at Manchester Airport, the Evening News reports Seven people are pursuing legal action against the airport over claims they were injured by the gates at the passenger exit lanes in terminal 1.
The knee-high gates were installed near the baggage collection area in arrivals a year ago as part of a trial of measures designed to improve security. The newspaper reports that the claimants include parents of children, who are said to have sustained leg injuries and bruising after allegedly being caught by the doors.
A spokesman for the airport confirmed that the incidents are being investigated but said he could not comment on any individual cases until the legal process had concluded. He also confirmed that the presence of the gates would be reviewed regularly because they are part of a trial.
