Manchester Airport was better prepared for snow
23.12.10
Manchester Airport stayed open during the recent snow and ice thanks to forward planning, extra investment in equipment and lessons learned from last year's winter disruption, its managing director has said.
After the problems last winter, when the weather forced the airport to close and grounded flights on several occasions, its management decided to increase its stockpile of de-icer for planes, taxiways and runways, and spend over £2 million on new snowploughs and grit trucks.
A total of 650,000 litres of de-icing fluid has been used so far to ensure the airport remains open and aircraft can operate safely.
