Homes to be bulldozed to make way for Manchester Airport hangar
21.11.09
Two family homes will be bulldozed to make way for a new hangar at Manchester Airport. The airport was granted permission to pull down the historic cottages on Hasty Lane, Ringway, to build a cargo unit. A 300-year-old pond containing a colony of great-crested newts will also be destroyed.
Protesters gathered outside Manchester town hall on Wednesday afternoon to voice their opposition to the scheme ahead of a planning meeting. However, their last-ditch bid for a stay of execution failed as the city council's planning and highways committee voted narrowly in favour of approving the plans.
