Snow closes Manchester Airport for 1½ hours
20.12.09
All flights at Manchester Airport were grounded for 1½ hours this morning because of the severe weather. However, flights in and out of the airport have been started to move again after snow and ice was cleared off runway one - the only runway being used over the Christmas period.
The travel plans of thousands were disrupted after the airport cancelled or suspended all services amid heavy snow. One return flight from Qatar had to be redirected to Birmingham airport.
A spokesman said passengers should expect ‘some delays’ for the rest of today, but confirmed flights were ‘starting to move’ after runway one was reopened. He said: ‘There will be some delays and we are telling travellers to contact their operators if they are travelling over the next few days.’
