Manchester Airport spotters park becomes ‘world cup free zone’
20.06.10
Manchester Airport’s runway visitor park has been declared a World Cup free zone – by its Scottish boss! The popular spotter and visitor area will be football free for the duration of the tournament as manager Colin Harris thinks hundreds of people are sick of the competition – just like him, the Manchester Evening News reports.
With Scotland not making it to the finals, Mr Harris has been teased by his workmates and is happy to provide a haven for fellow World Cup haters. He has banned visitors from listening to the matches on portable radios – because they could disrupt plane-spotters listening to conversations between pilots and air traffic control. No footballs will be allowed in the park and the infamous vuvuzela has also been given the red card.
To encourage more visitors, entry prices will be capped at £6 on England’s World Cup match days. This means cut price entry and parking for one car, for an unlimited stay on the day, regardless of how many people are in the vehicle. It’s free for people who walk, cycle, or arrive by public transport.
