Former Manchester Airport manager wins employment case

A former manager at Manchester Airport has won a payout of more than £25,000 after an employment tribunal found she was unfairly dismissed, the Manchester Evening News reports.
Jennifer Walley, 47, was sacked as senior communications manager in the airport's press office for `gross misconduct' following a disciplinary hearing. But the tribunal found mother-of-two Mrs Walley, an equalities officer at the National Union of Journalists, was dismissed for reasons connected with her union membership, the newspaper reports.
The tribunal said in its 24-page reserved judgement: ‘We are persuaded that the reason for the claimant's dismissal was her membership of the NUJ.’ The airport has been ordered to pay her £13,577 in compensation and £8,000 in damages, plus a basic award of £4,200.
