Manchester Airport to close runway next month
19.01.08
Manchester Airport has announced that it will close one of its two runways for most of February to undertake maintenance work, but hopes there will be no flight delays or cancellations as a result. The airport described the work on its second runway as routine and said it had been scheduled for a quiet period to minimise disruption.
Whilst Runway 2 is closed, the airport intends to handle all its usual traffic on the remaining runway (Runway 1). However, the closure from February 5 - 29 will fall during the school half-term holiday and some delays are expected.
Andrew Cornish, Manchester Airport managing director, said: 'This is important, but routine engineering work. February is traditionally a quieter time. We hope to manage all the aircraft on runway one and don't expect this to cause any significant delays.'
