Eastern axe Manchester – Stansted route
18.11.08
Eastern Airways is to end its services between Manchester Airport and Stansted on November 28, businesstravelworld.com reports. The airline currently operates three flights a day in each direction using BAe Jetstream 41 turboprop aircraft.
The airline only reintroduced services on the route in October last year, after flights between the two airports operated by Air Berlin were withdrawn. Eastern had previously operated on the route for three years until 2006.
An Eastern Airways spokesman told businesstravelworld.com: ‘I can confirm that the service will be suspended from December 1 with the last flights operating on November 28. We have been operating on the route for 13 months and have tried to increase demand by introducing more services, additional capacity and lower one-way fares to stimulate market but the tough economic climate, higher fuel costs and increased charges at airports have meant that we have had to take this tough decision.’
Passengers with flights after 30 November have been offered full refunds.
