Former Manchester Airport boss slams BAA
18.03.08
The former chairman of Manchester Airport has condemned the way airports in London and the south-east are being managed. Graham Stringer, a Labour MP and member of the transport select committee, said that airport operator BAA is guilty of laziness when it comes to service provision at Stansted, Heathrow and Gatwick.
Mr Stringer told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: ‘We have seen a long-term decline in the competitive position of London airports compared with other international airports. That is typical of a complacent monopoly provider of services. They've been able to make profits and they haven't provided for capacity in the long-term.'
He said that poor service it is not only bad for the customers, but is also ‘bad for the United Kingdom aviation industry’.
