Lufthansa enjoys record year at Manchester Airport
17.02.11
German airline Lufthansa enjoyed a record-breaking year at Manchester Airport as passenger numbers grew 19.3 percent to nearly 650,000 in 2010, the MEN reports. Lufthansa said its growth was fuelled by increased numbers of passengers using the airline to travel to the Far East, the Middle East and India via its hubs in Frankfurt, Munich and Dusseldorf. Connections to cities including Vienna, Moscow and Warsaw were also popular.
Marianne Sammann, Lufthansa's general manager for the UK and Ireland, told the newspaper: ‘Our passenger growth from Manchester Airport was exceptional, especially at a time when many airports are reporting a drop in passenger numbers for the year. It proves that huge numbers of travellers still want the added value they receive from a full service airline. They like to know the ticket includes good quality food and drink on board the aircraft as well as allowing them to check in at the airport and take a reasonable amount of luggage at no extra cost.’
