Pilots object to ID ‘guinea pig’ plan
17.02.09
Leaders of airline pilots unions have stepped up their opposition to identity cards, warning the Government of growing anger that airport workers are to be used as ‘guinea pigs’ for the controversial scheme.
The British Airline Pilots Association (Balpa) has written to the Identity and Passport Service, as well as to management at London City and Manchester Airport - the first two locations for the introduction of ID cards to airside workers - warning that pilots would not co-operate with the trial.
In its submission to the Government, Balpa said ID cards would have ‘absolutely no value’ for security and complained that its members were being ‘coerced’ into accepting the scheme.
