Big passenger and cargo falls at Manchester Airport
16.03.09
Manchester Airport saw a 6.84 percent drop in passengers in February, Crain’s reports. Passengers fell to 1.17m compared with 1.4m in 2007, while cargo volume fell 43.5 percent in the month.
Manchester Airport carried 21m passengers in 2008 and experienced a 6.03 percent fall in the past 12 months, while cargo is down 21.17 percent, figures released by the CAA reveal. Nationally, UK passenger numbers fell 1.9 percent to 235m in 2008, the first annual drop since 1991 and only the fourth since 1945.
Current economic trends made the prospect of UK air passenger numbers falling for two consecutive years for the first time in the post-war period ‘more likely than not’, the CAA said.
