50 years for Manchester Airport drugs gang

A gang has been jailed for a total of 50 years after being caught trying to smuggle cocaine worth £500,000 through Manchester Airport, the Evening News reports.
Four of the gang were caught by customs officers after they arrived on a flight from Paris last September carrying 5.6kg of the drug in a suitcase. A fifth man, Rhys Kennedy, who supplied flight tickets was arrested at his home in Withington. All five were all charged with being knowingly concerned with the importation of a controlled drug.
Tim Grady, 23, of Budsworth Avenue, Withington, was jailed for 12 years; Kennedy, 24, of Cuddington Avenue, Withington, for 8 years; Jose Larez, 40, Jose Mendoza Arteaga, 27, and Wendy Aponte Boente, 21, all from Venezuela, got 12 years, 11 years and 7 years respectively, at Manchester Crown Court this week.
