New security area opened at Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport has opened its new £10 million security screening area Crain's reports. The new area will speed up security checks leading to shorter delays at an airport that has been rated by passengers as one of the worst in the UK. The airport has also decided to get rid of all ‘pre security’ shops and restaurants in order to encourage passengers to fast track to the security area.
More than £2.2 million has been spent on new X-ray machines, which provide full colour, 3-D images of the contents of hand baggage, and vapour-testing machines to sniff out any unauthorised liquids have been installed.
Ten security lanes are now fully operational in Terminal 1 with four more due to be opened in June in time for the summer passenger peak, airport officials said. New staff have been taken on and current employees have been given refresher training on the new equipment, airport officials told the business daily.
Manchester Airport’s managing director Andrew Cornish said: ‘We’ve been quick to respond to what our passengers told us they wanted which was hassle-free security screening. The new security screening area is a big step forward. We’ve got new, faster, X-ray machines, more security lanes than ever before and a specially designed security hall to put passengers as ease as much as possible during what we know is one of the most stressful parts of air travel.’
