New iris recognition security at Manchester Airport
13.04.08
Security doors and screens installation company Meesons has implemented the UK's first iris biometric access control portal. It has been designed and fitted for controlling and monitoring staff access to restricted areas at Manchester Airport .
The biometric access control system enables the airport to allow staff to travel from airside through to landside safely and securely. It incorporates single person volumetric access control portals combined with iris recognition cameras, allowing staff access into restricted zones. Mike Fazackerley, Director of Security and Customer Service at Manchester Airport, said that this has resulted in enhanced security, increased efficiency, more accurate reporting and a reduction in the costs associated with manned guarding.
He said: ‘Manchester Airport is keen to ensure that security remains at the highest and most stringent levels, and that it is a safe, secure and convenient airport environment for staff. The biometric access control system enables us to do that.’
