Ryanair cut Manchester – Dublin flights
13.02.09
Ryanair is cutting the number of flights between Manchester Airport and its Dublin base because of dispute over tax and charges in Ireland. The budget airline said it is reducing the weekly flights to 46 from 60, beginning March 30.
A spokesman for the airline said traffic between the two airports would fall by 23 percent over the summer because of the changes, which it blamed on a new tourist tax imposed by the Irish government and what it described as ‘high’ aviation fees imposed by the Dublin Airport Authority.
The airline said it has been forced to cut 200 jobs at Dublin Airport and reduce its number of based aircraft at Dublin Airport to 18 from 22 as a result of the new €10 tax which comes into effect on March 31. The airline said all traffic to and from Dublin Airport would drop by 20 percent, equating to 2 million fewer passengers. Leeds Bradford was also affected by the announcement.
