£900 for two weeks parking at Manchester Airport

A holidaymaker was charged nine hundred pounds to park for two weeks at Manchester Airport, the Blackpool Gazette reports. Daniel Carr left his car for two weeks at the airport when he jetted off to Barbados for a holiday over Christmas. But when he returned from his break he was horrified to discover the airport had taken an extra £842 from his bank account, even though he had already paid for his airport parking.
Mr Carr told the newspaper: ‘I couldn't believe it. I only found out when I checked my account and phoned up my bank to ask about it. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw my balance. When I saw how much money had gone I was worried there was some fraudulent activity on my account, but the bank told me it had been taken out by the airport. I'm really annoyed. It's nearly £1,000 so it's not like it's something you would have budgeted for.’
He had alreay paid a £51 fee to park at the airport via its website in November under the airport's ‘super-saver’ scheme. He said: ‘The whole point of using the super saver scheme and paying for the car parking in advance online was because it was cheaper. I phoned them and they didn't really apologise or anything, they just said they would look into it and someone would call me back in the next 10 days.'
A spokesman for Manchester Airport told the Gazette the money had been taken out because of a mechanical error. He said: ‘Due to a one-off system error, Mr Carr's car parking charge was calculated incorrectly. We will refund the overcharge and, as gesture of goodwill, we will also waive the original car park charge.’
