A group of 16 holidaymakers heading for Manchester Airport, including children, were taken to hospital after a minibus overturned on a motorway in Greater Manchester. One man suffered serious injuries as he was thrown from the vehicle as it landed on its roof in the middle of the M60 near Prestwich on Thursday evening.
They had been heading to Manchester Airport when their minibus suffered a burst tyre, spun out of control and crashed into two other cars. Witnesses at the scene, who rang the emergency services, said there was a ‘sea of bodies’ on the carriageway. However, most of the passengers, who were from Bradford, suffered only minor injuries. The occupants in the two other vehicles were not injured.
Three fire engines, police and ambulance attended the incident and the road was closed off for 30 minutes while the debris was cleared.John Aspinall, the fire service spokesman, added: ‘There were six people on spinal boards, of those six, three were more seriously injured. The rest were walking wounded, with cuts and bruises and suffering from shock. Some of those taken to hospital were children, but they did not suffer serious injuries. The man who flew out of the minibus had serious but not life-threatening injuries.'
