Historic cottage near Manchester Airport saved by credit crunch
12.06.09
A historic cottage facing demolition to make way for a freight hangar at Manchester Airport has been granted a stay of execution because of the the recession, the Manchester Evening News reports.
The airport bosses had planned to pull down 400-year-old Rose Cottage, along with other buildings on Hasty Lane, Ringway, to build a cargo hangar. But after the hangar's tenant pulled out blaming the economy, the project has been put on hold.
A spokesman confirmed the company had shelved that part of the proposed £20m extension of its freight terminal off Runger Lane. It will be postponed until 'confidence returns to that market'. A larger 196,000sq ft hangar will still be built on an adjacent site.
