Manchester Airport passengers up 6.5%

Passenger numbers at Manchester Airport increased for the sixth consecutive month in September, with growth on scheduled international services offsetting a decline on domestic routes. The airport handled a total of 2.03m passengers, up 6.5 percent on September 2010.
Scheduled international flights saw a 13 percent increase to 1.16m and there was a modest 1.1 percent increase on charter services to 675,818. However, passenger numbers on domestic routes dropped by 8.2 percent to 198,000. The total number of aircraft movements increased by 4.2 percent to 16,140.
However, the decline in freight has continued, with a 4.4 percent drop in September to 8,928 tonnes. Manchester Airport has now handled 11.4m passengers since the start of its financial year in April, up by 8.6 percent on the same period of 2010.
