New rail platform at Manchester Airport open

A new multi-million pound improvement to Manchester Airport railway station was opened by transport secretary Geoff Hoon yesterday. The project, which was valued at £15 million, will improve train reliability for passengers and allow for a greater frequency of rail services to Manchester Piccadilly station.
Mr Hoon said that the improvement to transport links would ‘bring significant benefits’ to passengers. He added: ‘This new platform enables train services to run more reliably and provides extra capacity at the station, which will encourage more people to use public transport to access Manchester Airport.’
