Manchester Airport has placed an order with French-owned technology group Thales for two instrument landing systems. Thales UK, based in Chessington said this was the second contract it had been awarded following the signing of a Framework Agreement with The Manchester Airports Group Plc (MAG).
MAG which includes Manchester, East Midlands, Bournemouth and Humberside airports, is investing £750,000 in the new systems. Thales has orders for more than 30 of its 420 ILS systems which are being supplied to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and regional airports in the UK.
Steve Hill, vice president and managing director of Thales's air systems business in the UK, said: ‘This contract will ensure that Manchester Airport can continue to offer all-weather approach services to the highest UK Safety Regulation Group CAP 670 and ICAO standards.’
