A new mother had her baby beside her in prison as she was sentenced to six years in jail over her part in a bid to smuggle £130,000 worth of cocaine into the UK via Manchester Airport. Ralitsa Gocheva was pregnant when she was caught with the drugs in her suitcase earlier this year. She gave birth behind bars 10 weeks ago and her daughter was in a cot next to her at Styal Prison in Cheshire as she was jailed via video link yesterday.
Former au pair Gocheva and her partner Michael Okullu, both of Scarsdale Road, Victoria Park, Manchester, admitted charges relating to the illegal importing of drugs. Manchester Crown Court heard Mr Okullu - a refugee from Uganda - was being chased by Alliance & Leicester for a £34,000 debt at the time. He was also jailed for six years.
