Manchester Airport passengers evacuated
04.09.09
Hundreds of passengers were evacuated from gates at Manchester Airport yesterday after a fire alarm sounded on B Pier of Terminal One at 07:50. Around 500 passengers, waiting from gates 1 to 15, were evacuated either back into the departure lounge or out on to the tarmac by the stands by what turned out to be a false alarm.
They were allowed back into the pier within 10 minutes after the fire alarm was found to be faulty. The incident caused minimal disruption to flights. An airport spokeswoman said: ‘We knew straight away it was a false alarm and the passengers were allowed back in as soon as the fire officer confirmed this. No one missed their flight. The incident lasted less than 10 minutes.’
