‘Minimal disruption’ from Manchester Airport strike
01.09.09
A strike by aviation workers who refuel aircraft at Manchester Airport caused minimal disruption for Bank Holiday travellers - according to the airport. Around 28 staff employed by ASIG walked out at 05:00 yesterday and will not return to work until 12:45 today.
The workers, who are members of union Unite, are striking because their pay has been frozen this year. A spokesman for ASIG confirmed a contingency plan is ensuring operations continue as normal. An airport spokesman said: ‘There has been minimal disruption. We have had very few delays [over the weekend] and as far as I'm aware none of them are as a result of the strike.'
