Lydd Airport dims lights

The owners of Lydd Airport have cut the glare of floodlights over complaints of light pollution from locals.
Residents in Dunes Road said intense floodlighting from the airport (also known as London Ashford Airport) had left them unable to see the stars at night. They complained to Shepway District Council, who said it did not believe there was a huge impact on houses, but the glare could be reduced.
Zach Deir, the airport's managing director, said it did not want to be a nuisance to neighbours and had ‘dipped the lights’. But he said there were rules and regulations that the airport also had to comply with, adding: ‘If you have aircraft parked in the parking area, you have to light it up.
