Details of the 2006 Lydd Airshow were announced today. Mr Zaher Deir, managing director of London Ashford Airport Ltd, said at the launch of the Lydd Airshow 2006: 'The show will be a community-based event which we hope will bring fun and enjoyment to all those who attend.'
London Ashford Airport, the owners of Lydd Airport on Romney Marsh in Kent, is organising the first-ever Lydd Airshow, which is due to be held at the airport on the weekend of 9-10 September 2006. The airport is also launching a website that will be regularly updated with news about the airshow - www.lyddairshow.co.uk
Mr Deir said: 'Lydd Airshow promises to be a major event in Kent's tourism calendar and it is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors to Romney Marsh this autumn.' The show will incorporate a spectacular air display involving the latest fast jets, vintage and World War II aircraft, and parachute displays. There will also be an extensive range of on-ground activities, including trade stands, exhibits, lifestyle features, military vehicles, static displays, children's rides and musical entertainment, including a local radio Roadshow.
London Ashford Airport has appointed event management company The Big Event to organise this year's airshow. The Big Event, run by Lisa Duncan, has a long and successful track record in putting on major airshows across the UK.
