Businessman backs Luton Airport growth
29.05.08
An influential local businessman says Luton Airport has to expand if the town's economy is to grow. Derek Ludlow, MBE, chairman of the Beds & Luton Economic Development Partnership, says the continued expansion of the airport is 'essential' for the creation of 50,000 new jobs by 2021.
Mr Ludlow told a meeting of the partnership last week: 'The expansion of the airport could provide over a fifth of the jobs we need in this area. At the same time, we will continue to work with the airport to reduce the carbon footprint of its ground operations.'
Members pledged their support for the airport's expansion and have adopted a strategy that commits them to creating the 50,000 jobs by 2021, effectively doubling the current rate of job creation.
