Luton Airport flight emergency
27.08.09
Firefighters were called to Luton Airport yesterday after reports of smoke in a plane caused a full scale emergency, Luton Today reports. The plane landed normally.
Three fire engines, an aerial platform, a foam unit, a water carrier and an emergency response unit carrying special equipment, were called to the airport shortly after 07:30 in the morning after a 'category A' emergency was declared. A fire engine was also sent to junction 10 of the M1 motorway in case it needed to be closed due to the proximity of the runway.
The Boeing 737 landed safely and Luton Airport fire service inspected the aircraft while Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue services waited on standby. No-one was hurt in the incident and passengers left the plane normally.
