Thameslink platform extensions completed at Luton Airport
25.12.08
The first platform extensions for the Thameslink Programme have been completed at Luton Airport Parkway station. The station is the first to have its platforms lengthened on the Thameslink route before 2012. All four platforms have been extended by contractor BCM Construction by 80 metres to accommodate 12-car trains.
The scheme will see more than 4km of platforms lengthened along the Thameslink cross-London route and by 2012 will support a 50% increase in capacity through running longer trains and more services during the morning and evening peaks. This will be realised as new trains are introduced from 2012 to 2015.
