easyJet delay plane order
20.11.08
Luton Airport based budget airline easyJet has announced that it will delay the purchase of four Airbus planes, in response to uncertain economic conditions in the aviation industry.
The airline, which currently operates 166 aircraft from 20 bases across Europe, revealed that it has delayed the planned 2010 acquisition of four Airbus A320 family jets. This could have an effect on the delivery of a further 109 planes expected in the next four years.
The Airbus plane orders form part of easyJet's strategy of updating its fleet to achieve maximum efficiency, which will bring down transport costs and aviation taxes. easyJet’s chief executive, Andy Harrison, said earlier this week: ‘Unlike many of our competitors our Airbus contract provides us with a flexible approach to fleet growth, which we intend to make full use of in such uncertain economic conditions.’
