Residents vow to fight Luton Airport expansion plans

Residents have hit out at plans to increase Luton Airport's capacity from 11.5 million to 18 million a year - saying it will make their lives ‘a nightmare’, the Review reports. London Luton Airport Limited, which is owned by Luton Borough Council, revealed this week it is hoping to increase capacity, saying the expansion will create 6,000 jobs and be a major boost to the local economy.
Campaigner John Davis, from Luton and District Association for the Control of Aircraft Noise (LADACAN), said: ‘We are very angry that the area that we live in is being threatened by more aircraft noise and pollution. The roads around the airport are already grid locked and as much as they say passengers will use public transport, many will get in their cars and add to the traffic. And having twice as many planes means twice as much noise, which is going to be a nightmare for people living under the flight paths.’
Hilary Killen, chairman of Flamstead Parish Council, added: ‘Luton Airport wasn't built for this volume. The question we want answered is where can they find the capacity and what is the effect of expansion? Is it going to be night flights?'
