19.01.09
Luton airport had a record 10.2 million passengers in 2008, up 2.5 percent on a year earlier. The airport said in a statement that it was ‘unique among the major London airports in reporting positive passenger growth for 2008’.
During 2008 13 new flights were launched, with new destinations in France, Italy, Lithuania, Poland and Romania popular along with the first low cost flights from the UK to the Ukraine. Luton airport marketing director, Natalie Raper, said: ‘The figures show a continuing trend for travellers to choose London Luton Airport in the highly competitive South East UK market.'
For 2009 Luton airport has already announced more new flights, to Lvov in the Ukraine, Prague and Jersey. With the airline focused on cheap flights, in the current economic climate it should continue to out perform its London rivals.
